The Truth Will Set You Free

Our world is in a state of disaster. It is our policy not to enter into discourse about politics. The topic of this blog is not "politics," it is about lies and Truth.

As I watch the endless stream of political commercials on television and social media, I am disheartened. Regardless of which political party is "endorsing" the ad, the strategy is to "twist the truth" just enough, and then, reinforce it with a 2 second sound bite, that may be taken in or out of context.

The issue here is when one skews the truth, even just a tiny bit, it is no longer truth. Those who are charged with running our country are teaching our children that it's okay to lie to gain. It's acceptable to slightly "change the truth" to get ahead. Unfortunately, when someone lies on a regular basis, they start to believe their own lies. That strategy is if they say it louder and more often than anyone else, people will ultimately believe the lie.

Lying is sin. Regardless of the size of lie, it's an untruth. Sin is sin, no matter the degree of the sin.

There is only one Truth. God is Truth. God's Word is truth. Jesus declared in John 8:31-32, "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free." Anything outside of God and His Truth is sin.

We should use the Word of God as the standard for truth. Ask yourself if what your hearing "holds up" against scripture. The Holy Spirit will stir in you to guide you in identifying Truth.

Frankly, this country is a "hot mess." During this political season of vicious discourse, remember I Corinthians 13:6-7 Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres.

God has no greater joy than to know His children are walking in truth. 3 John 1:4
